I feel like I wrote the Open Question Essay, Poetry Essay, and the Prose Essay well. I think I specifically did good on the Open Question Essay because I felt confident about the text I chose which was King Lear. The question was: Select a novel, play, or epic poem in which a character holds an “ideal view of the world.” Then write an essay in which you analyze the character’s idealism and its positive or negative consequences. Explain how the author’s portrayal of this idealism illuminates the meaning of the work as a whole. For this I thought King Lear would be very fitting because King Lear holds the ideal view that his children love him dearly and can do anything for him when in reality only his youngest daughter Cordelia loves him dearly and his other two daughters, Goneril and Regan are after his wealth. When King Lear realizes that his "ideal view" of his daughters is wrong he goes mad and eventually dies showing the negative consequences of having an "ideal view of the world."
I think I struggled on the Multiple Choice part of the exam because this part of the exam has always been my weak spot. Though my score has increased from the beginning of the year I still did not feel that confident on this part of the exam. I struggled on questions that asked about the overall meaning of the work as a whole.
Some activities that helped me prepare for the AP Exam were the many essays that we wrote during class and out of class. Though they were time consuming they really did help me prepare for the exam because I learned how to write essays in 40 minutes which is how much we can do in the real AP Exam since we get 120 minutes to write 3 essays. I also learned how to better articulate complexity which I really struggled with in the beginning of the year.
